Wickes is planning to expand its chain of 200 DIY stores with 100 new outlets over the next few years.

Wickes is planning to open a chain of standalone bathroom and kitchen stores, depending on the success of three trial outlets in Christchurch, Crawley and West Hampstead.

Wickes is planning to double its chain of 185 DIY stores over the next seven years, including between 15 and 20 new outlets this year.

Wickes Home Improvement Centres and Blockbuster Video have announced plans to set up stores at a new retail park in Blackburn, and other interested retailers are said to include Argos, Staples, PC World, Pets at Home and Boots.

Wickes is to sell Wickes Continental, the chain of 39 DIY stores in France, Belgium and the Netherlands, to Bricorama of France for £7.5m, which will reduce Wickes' group debt by £12.5m.
