Whitworths is looking to expand its fruit and nut snacks business by increasing capital expenditure to £10m and creating 100 new jobs over the next five years.

Whitworth Bros has bought the business of Smiths Flour Mills out of administration, including sites in Worksop, Langley Mill and Holbeach.

Whitworths has acquired Sundora, the dried fruit and nut company, for undisclosed terms, and production will transfer from Pocklington to Irthlingborough.

Whitworths, the dried fruit and nuts company, is being sold by Scotia Haven to a management buy-out backed by Gresham Trust for £15m.

Scotia Haven has acquired Whitworths, the baking ingredients business, from Napier Brown for £44m, and now aims to launch dried fruit products into the snacks market.
