United Co-operatives has acquired Quality Fare, the chain of 19 convenience stores in the north-east, for £38m.

United Co-operatives has acquired Cheers Shropshire, the Oswestry-based chain of 12 Neighbours convenience stores with 200 staff.

United Co-op is to invest £24m in its convenience stores this year, including refurbishments and the acquisition of at least 26 new stores.

United Co-op has acquired the Willis chain of convenience stores, which includes 12 sites mainly in South Yorkshire.
