Tote, the bookmaker, is to relocate its head office from London to the Wigan Investment Centre in March, to be closer to the 600 staff already employed in Wigan.

Tote has acquired the Manny Bernstein chain of 30 betting shops in the Midlands and North East, taking its chain to almost 400.

Tote is planning to open a further 130 betting shops, taking its chain to 500 by 2004.

Tote, the state-owned bookmaker, is relocating its internal audit and pools integrity management divisions from London to the new Centre for Trade & Technology Transfer in Wigan.

Tote has acquired 37 Yorkshire-based betting shops from Peter Smith Racing for undisclosed terms.

Tote has acquired 32 Mike Dines betting shops in the North West of England for undisclosed terms, taking its total number of outlets to 275.
