Topland is to merge its chains of Hallmark and Feather hotels, to create a combined 28-strong group.

Topland has acquired the Feathers chain of eight hotels in Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston and Warrington.

Topland has acquired Hallmark Hotels, the nationwide chain of eight four-star properties with 600 staff, for about £75m.

Topland Group has bought 12 hotels from the administrators of Derby-based Menzies Hotels, but 155 jobs will be lost through the closure of three other sites in Gatwick, Luton and Swindon.

Topland Group is to relocate the London headquarters of its real estate business to an adjacent 7,000 sq ft office on Wigmore Street.

Topland has won planning permission for a 220,000 sq ft office development at 33 King William Street in London.

Topland has submitted plans to Bath & North East Somerset Council to develop a 200-bedroom hotel at Green Park House in Bath, with the creation of 80 jobs.

Topland is planning to invest £200m in the creation of a £1bn chain of budget hotels, including the acquisition of about 50 sites over the next 18 months.
