Daniel Thwaites has confirmed plans to build a new brewery, head office and visitor centre for 200 staff at Sykes Holt near Blackburn.

Thwaites is to acquire the free trade beer supply interests of Manchester-based Hydes Brewery, with the transfer of eight staff.

Thwaites is looking to relocate its Blackburn-based brewery and up to 300 staff over the next four years, and Sainsbury's will take its existing site in the town centre.

Thwaites is looking to expand its estate of about 400 pubs and has just acquired a further five properties in the north of England and Wales for £1.9m.

Thwaites is investing £9m in the refurbishment of its chain of 425 pubs, partly in preparation for the introduction of the smoking ban in July.
