SLP Engineering, the Lowestoft-based offshore engineering firm, has been bought out of administration by Sembcorp Marine Group of Singapore for £2.5m.

SLP Engineering is to create 100 new jobs at its yard in Lowestoft, having won a contract from Nexen Petroleum to build an offshore accommodation module.

SLP Engineering has sold its Sea & Land Power and Energy subsidiary out of administration to a subsidiary of Smulders Group, securing 17 jobs in Lowestoft.

SLP has secured the future of hundreds of Lowestoft-based jobs, having won a multi-million pound contract to help build oil platforms for Maersk Oil Qatar.

SLP Engineering is hoping to build a centre of excellence for renewable energy in Lowestoft, which would involve a cluster of offices at the base of its proposed wind turbine at Ness Point.

SLP Engineering has submitted plans to build a 150-metre land-based 3.2MW wind turbine at Ness Point in Lowestoft, in order to test the technology before developing future schemes out at sea.

SLP Engineering is considering plans to set up a wind turbine fabrication and maintenance centre in Lowestoft, and has also announced a new contract to build a mini platform for BP's £30m Hoton gas field project in the North Sea.
