Liberty International

Liberty International has raised £159m in a share placing to finance the redevelopment and expansion of its shopping centres, including a £275m scheme in Norwich and a £85m expansion of the Gateshead MetroCentre.

Liberty International is drawing up proposals to transform the empty upper floors of the Lewis's department store in Liverpool into a hotel, penthouse apartments or luxury offices.

Liberty International and Land Securities are planning to build a £500m shopping, leisure and residential complex in Cardiff city centre by 2006.

Liberty International is to spend £70m refurbishing its out-of-town shopping centres this year.
