Kelda, the owner of Yorkshire Water with 4,000 staff, is to be acquired by a consortium including GIC Special Investments and Infracapital Partners for £3bn.

Kelda is to sell its Aquarion water business in the US to Macquarie Bank for £491m.

Kelda is to acquire four New England water supply businesses from American Water Works Company for £162m, as part of a strategy to expand its Aquarion subsidiary in the US.

Kelda has sold ALcontrol Laboratories, the environment and food testing business, to private equity group Bridgepoint Capital for £70m.

Kelda is planning to sell Yorkshire Water's physical assets to a customer-owned mutual company for about £2.4bn, in order to help it finance a large investment programme.
