Gyrus Group, the Wokingham-based medical equipment manufacturer with factories in Cardiff, Canada and the US, is to be acquired by Olympus of Japan for £926m.

Gyrus Group is to acquire American Cystoscope Makers, the US-based medical device supplier with 900 staff, for £275m.

Gyrus Group has acquired Urology Solutions, the distributor of medical products in Australia and New Zealand, for up to £1.2m.

Gyrus has acquired Explorent, the German supplier of surgical instruments, for up to £3.8m.

Gyrus has acquired Entermed, the distributor of medical products in Belgium and the Netherlands, for £1.5m.

Gyrus has sold its surgical drapes business to Microtek Medical for £2.5m.

Gyrus is spending about £100m on the acquisition of two US medical equipment companies - Somnus Medical Technologies and the Richards ear, nose and throat business of Smith & Nephew.

Gyrus is to acquire Everest Medical Corporation, the US manufacturer of surgical equipment, for £32m, which will give it access to a 105-strong US salesforce.

Gyrus Medical is to invest £2.5m at its Cardiff medical equipment site, with the creation of 150 jobs.
