Freightliner, the rail freight carrier, is to be acquired by Arcapita of Bahrain for £340m, and is now looking to expand the international side of the business.

Freightliner is to expand its rail freight services from the port of Felixstowe, following the completion of work to allow large shipping containers to be carried on the rail network.

The government is planning a £15m rail freight terminal east of Cardiff, which will be run by Freightliner and is intended to take 40,000 truck journeys off the road each year.
