Brunner Mond

Brunner Mond is planning to build a sustainable energy plant fuelled by biomass and pre-treated waste at its chemicals site in Lostock, Cheshire, in partnership with Eon.

Brunner Mond is to invest £18m at its Cheshire-based soda ash manufacturing operations, in order to cut energy costs and improve environmental performance.

Brunner Mond has secured planning permission to build a new £10m sodium bicarbonate plant at Lostock in Northwich by 2009, with the creation of 14 jobs.

Brunner Mond, the Cheshire-based soda ash manufacturer, has been acquired by Tata Chemicals of India for £65m.

Brunner Mond is planning to transform the land around its chemicals site in Northwich, including the creation of an urban village with 700 homes, the transformation of a waste dump into parkland and the construction of a new energy plant.

Citicorp Venture Capital is to re-acquire Brunner Mond, the soda ash company that it floated two years ago, for £145m.

Brunner Mond has completed the acquisition of the soda ash business of Akzo Nobel of the Netherlands, which makes it the second largest soda ash producer in Europe.
