BMI is to expand its budget airline operations at East Midlands Airport, including three additional aircraft and eight new European routes.

BMI British Midland, the Castle Donington-based airline with hubs at Heathrow and Manchester, is to be acquired by Lufthansa of Germany for £314m.

BMI is creating 20 management and strategy jobs at the Castle Donington-based head office of its airline business.

BMI is to expand its airline operations in Asia, having announced 17 new destinations from Heathrow to countries such as Iran, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

BMI is to create 33 new jobs at Aberdeen Airport through the £4.2m relocation of its engineering base from East Midlands Airport.
