Agilent Technologies is to invest £5.6m in the expansion of its telecoms testing facility at South Queensferry near Edinburgh this year, with the creation of 20 research and development jobs.

Agilent Technologies is to close its fibre-optic components factory in Ipswich in July with the loss of 200 jobs, while 50 research staff will relocate to a new site.

Agilent Technologies is creating a further 350 jobs at its telecoms test equipment plant in South Queensferry, and also plans to recruit 100 marketing and administration staff at new offices in Dunfermline.

Agilent Technologies has announced plans for the development of a £12m fibre optics R&D facility at its Whitehouse centre in Ipswich, with the creation of 500 jobs.
