Aepona, the Belfast-based IT firm, is to be sold by Intel to Persistent Systems of India for an estimated £80m.

Aepona is to set up a new IT office at the £15m five-storey Soloist development at Lanyon Place in Belfast in 2013.

Aepona has acquired Valista of Dublin for undisclosed terms, creating a combined telecoms software firm with almost 200 staff in Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Aepona, the Belfast-based telecoms software company, is to merge with Appium of Sweden, and will use the Swedish facility as a development centre and regional sales office.

Aepona has secured a £10m venture capital investment to fund the expansion of its Belfast-based telecoms software business.

Aepona is planning a £3.2m expansion at its mobile phone software development business in Belfast, with the creation of 97 jobs.
