Adwest Automotive, the manufacturer of gear shifts and engine thermostats, is to be acquired by Dura Automotive of the US for £125m.

Adwest has sold three power systems companies for £8m - Abbott Electronics was sold to XCEL Corp of the US, Air-Log went to EIS, and Ross Courtenay Cirencester went to a management buy-out.

Adwest is buying Rearsby, the automotive component maker, for £29m, thus creating a leading player in the manufacture of control cables, clutches and gear parts.

Adwest has sold its 50% stake in Bryad, the housebuilder, to Bryant Group, for £2.9m.

Adwest Group is buying Conversion Devices, the US power supply maker, for $10.4m.
