Railfreight Distribution English Welsh & Scottish Railway's recent acquisition of Railfreight Distribution has now been given European Commission approval, following a renegotiation with the government over the repayment of some of the grants promised. 20-Nov-1997 English Welsh & Scottish Railway is to take over Railfreight Distribution, the long-distance Channel tunnel freight service, giving it a virtual monopoly on British Rail's freight businesses. 14-Mar-1997 English Welsh & Scottish Railway, the US-owned company, has been selected as preferred bidder for Railfreight Distribution, the British Rail Channel tunnel freight train operator. 27-Dec-1996 Railfreight Distribution, the British Rail freight business due to be sold off, has had six bidders shortlisted, including Transfesa of Spain, GE Capital of the US, Tibbett & Britten, English Welsh and Scottish Railway, Freightliner and National Power. 02-Oct-1996 Railfreight Distribution, which runs freight trains to the Continent, is to be sold off with the government promising to write off hundreds of millions of pounds of debt. 07-Jun-1996 The information above comes from the UK Activity Report Copyright UK Business Park 1995-2007
