Community Hospitals, the operator of 21 private hospitals, has received a number of takeover approaches that will be considered over the next few weeks. 15-Jan-2001 Bupa's £230m agreed takeover bid for Community Hospitals Group has lapsed after being referred to the Competition Commission, which could result in other large hospital groups making rival offers. 13-Jun-2000 Community Hospitals is planning to launch a cosmetic surgery programme in 20 of its hospitals. 29-Feb-2000 Community Hospitals Group has agreed contracts for all 21 of its hospitals to join either Bupa or PPP's network, in order to secure additional work from the health insurers. 23-Feb-1999 Community Hospitals has offered £24m to acquire the remaining 80% of Independent British Healthcare, which would double its number of hospitals to 22. 13-Dec-1997 Westminster Healthcare is acquiring Libra Health Care for £22.8m, and is selling Libra's New Hall Hospital, which specialises in plastic surgery, to Community Hospitals for £8m. 23-Sep-1997 Bupa is acquiring 14 nursing homes from Community Hospitals for £29m, as Community withdraws from the market in order to focus on hospitals. 30-May-1997 Community Hospitals Group is looking to sell its nursing homes division in order to focus on its hospitals business, as it feels unable to compete in the rapidly-consolidating nursing homes sector. 25-Feb-1997 Community Hospitals is looking for acquisitions to expand its nursing homes and private hospitals divisions. 27-Feb-1996
